![]() Destroyed during the Revolution, reconstructed in 1830, the Château d'Arsac, represented here in the 20's, under the reign of the RULHE family, subscribed to a " Louis-Philippard " view revisited by HERGE , parent of the glorious Capitain HADDOCK, the proprietor of " MOULINSART ", starting point for the recurrent investigations of the journalist TINTIN.. ![]() It's bourgeoise appearance must not make one forget that Arsac constitutes one of the oldest domaines of the Medoc : during the 100 Years War, in the 12th century, the Sires of Arsac made an alliance with the king of England. In the 16th century, Margueritte and Jacquette of Arsac married one Etienne de LA BOETIE, the other Thomas de MONTAIGNE, respectively the friend and the brother of Michel de MONTAIGNE. Subsequently, the domaine would be the proprety of the Counts of SEGUR and the Barons of ARSAC.. At the end of the 19th century, the vineyard of Arsac was the largest in the Medoc, but the crisis of phylloxera and the slump in sales of wine incited the proprietors to uproot the totality of the vines, so much so that it was not included in the Margaux appellation created in 1954. Today it has refound its wine-producing vocation and the Margaux appellation from which it had been forgotten, for purely contingent reasons. ![]() From 1986, Philippe RAOUX undertook the restoration of the domain ; concerning the château itself , it is the Bordelais architect Patrick HERNANDEZ to whom the proprietor entrusts , once the rennovation of the work engine was finished, the careful task of entering Arsac into the most audacious modernity, in the idea of creating a solid alliance between the vines, the wine and living art. In March 2001, the château d'Arsac was classed a "Demeure Historique". |
